My officemate (who you think is a good looking fellow) has had a few orchids for over a year. None of them have bloomed yet and he is kind of sad about it. Can you offer any advice? (Is it bad that our office is on the north side of the building?)
The one in the picture is a phaleonopsis (sp?), which is the easiest one to care for. Mine is in an east-facing shaded window, so it doesn't get too much sunlight but does get some.
Orchids like to be fertilized once per month (though I do it about every other--but this could be your main problem). They should also be amply watered a few times a week, allowing the soil (bark) to dry between. You can probably mist away. The leaves should be slick and shiny...if they turn dull and accordian-like, they're stressed. Assuming WY air is dry, he can try putting dishes w/ river rocks underneath to hold water and release moisture.
