When I was younger, my grandmother made much larger and much more impressive butter lambs.

my gram used to get big pound blocks of butter, let it soften, and then mold it into the shape of a sacrificial lamb. the penant is a key feature.

the butter lamb is a traditional polish easter custom. you're supposed to put it in a basket and take it with the rest of your easter foods to have it blessed at church. there is also a traditional easter cake that is in the shape of a lamb!

Given that i was raised roman catholic and that i'm polish, i've been oddly touched by the pope's passing--haven't felt this way since i was a young altar boy. the amount of press coverage is really surprising.

so, do you put the soft butter into a mold, or do you just manhandle it until it looks sort of like a lamb? did you bring yours to church to have it blessed?

I'm sure the homemade ones are done by hand. The one in the pic was obviously mass-produced. The Veg is not a church-goer.
